Clarify Your Meaning...More Choosing Wisely

If your readers get lost in your sentences, they don't get your meaning. Omit unnecessary words from your writing. Make sure what you have to say is clear. Below are a bunch to avoid:

  • Absolutely essential
  • Absolutely perfect
  • Absolutely unique
  • Adding together
  • At this point in time
  • Consecutive in a row
  • Current status
  • Exactly the same
  • In close proximity
  • Joined together
  • Necessary requisite
  • Past history
  • Very unique

Great blog! What do you think of Strunk's preference for "studentry" over "student body", the former, apparently, being "less cadaverous"? (Elements of style)

I usually follow the style guide. I like Strunk. (But in this case, I'd probably go with "student body." "Studentry" is probably over the heads of many readers.)  I strive for clarity and "Plain English." Thanks for the feedback on the blog!!
