It's All in How You Say It...
My very dear friend from work could be my long-lost step-sister. The only difference is that I'm very southern, and she's from Long Island. (Occasionally, I need subtitles to understand her, but I'm sure that she feels the same about me.)
She had a cookout (southern term) (barbecue - her word) at her house. She invited some couples from work and my sister and her family. After lunch, everyone retired to the kitchen for dessert and fun conversation. My friend's son and husband were giving us a list of Yankee-isms. We learned about Slippaz and Peppaz. Then they brought up money. They kept saying, "It's 5 Dollaz, 5 Dollaz." My three year old niece piped up with, "No, it's 5 Doll-ERS." Everyone howled with laughter. Dollaz sounded funny to her too.
