"Poetic" Justice
The juveniles who vandalized Robert Frost's home were given the option recently of taking a Frost class. It will be interesting to see if any were affected by the poetry. CNN covered the story.
As a lover of all things literary, it's foreign to me that people don't read or even have a general knowledge of literature. I used "jay gatsby" as a password on a for some test software on a shared PC recently. When I gave the password to the testers verbally, four couldn't log in because they typed things like "JGatsby," "JGatspy." After we got the password corrected, I had to explain what Jay Gatsby was. Then I had to define The Great Gatsby and F. Scott Fitzgerald. None of them had even heard of the book.

The Great Gatsby has always been my favorite book. It is THE American tragic success story.
As for the testers not knowing the book or F. Scott (whose grave is nearby at St. Mary's in Rockville, MD), remind them of what W.C. Williams said:
"It is difficult
to get the news from poems
yet men die miserably every day
for lack
of what is found there."
