Other Ideas for Work Tools

Word, Excel and other tools are staples at work, but they have features that you can use for volunteer work or other projects.

1. Our Volunteer Council does a gift tree every year at work. The charities fill out a chart for all of the children (with likes, sizes, etc.). I merge that information to create labels for each angel ornament.

2. I use Word and PageMaker to do my captions at home for my scrapbooks.

3. I use PowerPoint templates when I need a quick sign or notice at work. I use this at home too for yard sale signs.

4. My friend uses PowerPoint to make slideshows of her family pictures. She saves the files to CDs.

5. I use Word's templates to create quick calendars, newsletters, or handouts for volunteer presentations or projects. To save paper, I've been doing my handouts as double-sided trifold brochures. The Microsoft Office site has lots of templates from which to choose. (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/FX100595491033.aspx?ofcresset=1) There is also a tab on this site for clipart ideas. 6. You can use MS Project to create timelines. Add your entries with start and stop dates, and you can use the charts and graphs to depict your information. (I wish I had this in 7th grade history.)
