Don't Get Out Much?

I go to meetings. Some days, that's about all I do. Recently, I've seen some behavior from coworkers that has made me cringe.

These examples are from meetings that I attended last week...

1. Staff arrived late and expected those in attendance to rehash what had already been covered.

2. I attended one meeting where detailed changes to a project were being discussed. No one was designated the notetaker. (Someone asked to borrow my notes at the end of the meeting to create a list of the decisions.)

3. Two staff members decided that texting on their personal phones was more interesting than the meeting.

When you're invited to a meeting, you represent your department and company. You need to be a contributor. In a world where layouffs are common, you don't need to give anyone the idea that you're not a valuable member and that you're not needed.
