What do you call it?
We're asked a lot to create one- to two-page user guides. We decided to come up with a standard name for these. Some folks called them job aides, memory joggers, tips and tricks, and cheat sheets. We wanted a standard term, and we ended up using Quick Reference Guide or QRG (since we make almost everything into an acronym).
We didn't go with tips and tricks or cheat sheets because of the negative connotations. I don't like "hints" either. It sounds like you're giving someone a few clues, but you're not explaining how to do something.
We settled on Quick Reference Guides. Do you have a formal name for this type of document?

Quick Reference Guide isn't bad. Another way to go is Quick Start Guide (QSG).
