Go Green at Work

Many companies are starting to have official recycling programs. If yours doesn't, there are still some things you can do.

1. Technical writers generate a lot of paper. There are still some things that I have to proofread as a hard copy. When I do this, I print double-sided. I also try to limit the number of drafts that I print. We've gone to a document repository, so we don't have to circulate that many paper copies for reviews any more. It's nice to just send a link. Our document repository has also cut down on the number of paper manuals that we distribute too. (One of my friends takes her scrap paper home for her daughters to use for drawing.)

2. Recycle your paper, ink cartridges, bottles, and cans.

3. I save the cardboard from notebooks and magazines for art projects.

4. It's almost the end of year. Recycle your paper calendars.

5. Find an elementary school or art teacher. They love to have unused cardboard, boxes, etc. We have a plotter. The cardboard tubes for the paper are great for art projects.

6. We receive a lot of packages. Folks save and reuse the bubble wrap and filler. Many of the boxes can be reused.

7. The cardboard boxes that paper comes in are great for storage. I use them for books and other stuff I want to keep. They're great if you're planning to move too.
