It's all a matter of perspective...

I was undecorating this week. (I love to decorate for Christmas. I hate to take everything down.) I get frustrated when I can't find all the ornaments that go in a specific box. For a while, I had about twelve different boxes going. I couldn't find the last ornament in a set, and sometimes, it was staring me in the face. When I changed my location or perspective, I could see what I couldn't see previously.

Sometimes, it's the same with writing. If you hit a wall, change your perspective.

1. Change your location. Write somewhere where you haven't written before.
2. Go find something else to do for a while.
3. Go exercise. Endorphins are great.
4. If you're in the middle of a big writing project, stop for a minute, and write from a different character's point of view.
5. Do a five-minute writing exercise. There are lots of free ones on the web. Check out my resource's page on Crazy for Words for links to some good ones.
6. Stop and read what someone else has written. Poetry is a nice change.

Good luck with your writing. Keep at it, and have a happy 2009!
