Happy Memorial Day weekend! I grew up in Virginia Beach. In addition to the day of remembrance, it was also the kickoff for the summer season!

I love Virginia history. I saw a link to this site in the paper this morning. (Virginia also has a good claim on the first Thanksgiving.) Check out James Ryan's site about the origins of the tradition for National Memorial Day that can be traced back to the Civil War in Petersburg, VA. If you're ever in Central Virginia, stop in Petersburg. The Blandford Church has the most amazing Tiffany stained glass windows. We went on a cloudy day, and they were brilliant then.
