Web Proofreading
Recently, my team has been involved with a major project to overhaul a website. Our team has been involved with importing content, proofreading, editing, and checking functionality. These are some steps that have helped us...
1. Organize the site and do your planning on paper. It helps to know where everything is supposed to go before the project starts. Make sure that you have all of the requirements and specifications. Decide on the style elements before you start proofreading. Make sure that everyone uses the same guidelines.
2. Get the content in the site. Use Word as the first round of spell checking to catch the majority of the typos.
3. Go back and proofread and edit. Print out copies and proofread on paper. (It's difficult to catch mistakes when you proofread on the screen.)
4. Put it down and proofread again later. Often, we switch off and proofread other areas. It helps to have fresh eyes. Sometimes, we'll bring in another resource who has never looked at it for another round of proofreading.
5. After all of the proofreading and editing, we bring do a round of QA review and User Acceptance Testing.
