Stuff like this keeps good writers (and proofreaders) in business...

I saw these signs or posts recently. Happy proofreading!

This was part of the instructions that I saw about a tornado drill. This was step 1. Step 2 was to stay in the safe room until the all clear alarm sounded. I think I’m to close the door when I leave an office or conference room. Or am I supposed to close the door when I leave the safe room?

If you are in an office or conference room, proceed to one of the safe rooms, or safe areas, closing the door on your departure.

This is from an article on CNN.com about American Idol, Crystal Bowersox:

During her third week of live competition on Tuesday, judge Simon Cowell told Crystal Bowersox , the 24-year-old dreadlock-sporting mom from Elliston, Ohio, the competition was “your’s to lose.”

I recently went through the drive-through window of a local fast food restaurant. They had a sign with the manager’s name and contact number. They were pleased to serve me. The last line on the sign was:

We want to sincerely say “Thank you”.

Okay, I hope they really meant…We want to sincerely say, “Thank you.” The way it’s written, the quotation marks make me question the “sincerely” part. (Plus, the period should be inside the quotation marks.)

On a cafeteria menu, I saw an entry for Roasted Beff. I love mystery meat!

Happy Friday!
