I hope you're catching up on your summer reading. Here are two more to add to your list.

Last week, I finished Anne George's Murder Shoots the Bull. I like her southern mysteries, starring two 60+ sisters who are amateur sleuths. Set in and around Birmingham, Alabama, her novels are filled with crazy southern charm and characters. All of her books have humorous references to the large statue of Vulcan  and its state of dress. I had to look it up, and there are a bunch of websites devoted to the statue of the Roman god. For a good, summer mystery, read any of Anne George's books in this series.

This week I read Mark Mills' The Savage Garden. It has a young British narrator who goes to Italy to work on a research project. Mills juxtaposes a 15th century murder with one in the post-WWII setting of the novel. He sprinkles the book with classical and literary allusions. His descriptions of England and Italy paint a vivid picture that make me want to return to Europe. This novel is a great read for mystery lovers. Now I want to read his other two novels, Amagansett and The Information Officer.
