Arlington National Cemetery...Technology and History
Arlington National Cemetery is one of my favorite places to visit when we go to Northern Virginia. The Richmond Times-Dispatch had two interesting articles about it this morning.
The first is the great news about the Northern Virginia IT companies (members of the Northern Virginia Technology Council) that are going to work with the cemetery to automate its record keeping for free. This will straighten out that mess of mislabeled graves. I was surprised when I read that the cemetery was using over 300,000 index cards to manage its data.
The second was a smaller article about eight of the Supreme Court Justices' final resting places (near where President Kennedy is buried). In total, 12 justices are buried in Arlington National Cemetery. It's an interesting article about the bond between the justices.(Richmond, Virginia is the final resting place for three justices, buried at Shockhoe Hill Cemetery and Hollywood Cemetery.)
We haven't been back to the Washington, DC area in a few years. I think it's time to plan a fall visit.
