August 16, 1977
Monday, August 16 is the 33rd anniversary of Elvis' death. Mark wills sums it up with, "Well, I was a kid when Elvis died/And my mama cried" in his song, "19-Something."
I love Elvis' songs, songs about Elvis, and kitschy memorabilia . My husband and I went to Graceland a few years back, and we had a lot of fun in Memphis. If you've never been, you've got to go at least once.
When I turned 40, my sister conspired with my co-workers to smuggle in an Elvis impersonator to my work. I went to the conference room for an emergency meeting, and there he was in all his glory and sequins with about 50 of my co-workers and family. I was stunned and speechless (which doesn't happen very often). The impersonator was about 70. He got down on the floor during "Hound Dog," and he had to use the conference table to get back up. The security guard still asks me every year around my birthday if Elvis is coming again. I was so embarrassed, but what fun!
This is my "youngest" dog, Tigger Elvis. (Yes, my dogs have middle names. It's a Southern thing.) He claimed my Elvis Snuggie, and I had to wrestle away from him.
