I picked up Elizabeth Adler's One of Those Malibu Nights out of the stacks at the library. I enjoyed it. It's about a hard-boiled PI, Mac Reilly, who also has his own TV show. It has Hollywood types who jetset to France and Italy. It has the traditional detective, a little romance, lots of flirtation, and lots of dogs. (Dog mysteries are always good.) It's a fun end of the summer read.
This week, I finished Jen Lancaster's Pretty in Plaid: A Life, a Witch, and A Wardrobe, or the Wonder Years before the Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-centered Smart-ass Phase. I love her titles! This biography is about a Gen Xer growing up in New Jersey and moving to Indiana (to a town affectionately called Cowtown). This book also includes her college years and her job search. Check out her blog at Jennsylvania.com.
She details many of the 70s and 80s fads that I remember. I liked that I grew up in eastern Virginia during the same time, and I had many of the same experiences. (If you're too young to remember the Carter or Reagan years, listen to Mark Wills' "19 Somethin'." One of my interns told me recently that he had heard of something that I was talking about in history class. Lovely, but that's another story in itself.)
Right now, I'm reading Lauren Weisberger's Chasing Harry Winston.
Have a great weekend! Let me know what you're reading.
