September 20

I was surfing this evening, and I visited theĀ History Channel. I was curious if anything happened today...It did...
  • In 1975, the Bay City Rollers made their US debut. (I remember their Saturday morning show..."SSSAT..UR-DAY..." Okay, I've really dated myself now.)
  • In 1973, Billie Jean King beat Bobby Riggs in the "Battle of the Sexes." Go BJK! You rock!
  • In 1946, movie lovers marked the first Cannes Film Festival.
  • Happy Birthday to Sophia Loren (1934) and Upton Sinclair (1878).
  • In 1565, the first European battle occurred on American soil. The Spanish attached a French settlement in present day Jacksonville, FL.
  • In 1519, Magellan set sail. He discovered the route around South America in October of the same year.

Happy September 20!
