Recent Reads - Webb and Bowen

I'm back on my mystery kick again.

I finished Peggy Webb's Elvis and the Dearly Departed. It's part of her Southern Cousins' Mystery Series. Her characters are charming and very funny. Most of the zany relatives are involved with the family's funeral parlour. And I love the dog named Elvis. I want to read more of her series.

My sister-in-law Vicky recommended Rhys Bowen's Evan and Elle (part of the Constable Evans Series). It was good. I liked the twists and turns. Set in Wales, the small-town constable outwits the governmental agents and solves the crimes. I liked the Welsh vocabulary list, the village settings, and the local tradition of nicknaming folks by their last name and their trade. (The only drawback was the dialog for the French characters. When it was time for them to speak in English, all of the lines were written in heavily accented dialect. It was a little tedious after a while.) I want to read more of this series too.

Let me know if you run across any interesting authors. Happy reading!
