I saw this review on NPR's site this morning about how much the King James Bible affected normal language. David Crystal's Begat: The King James Bible and the English Language details idioms derived from scripture. Many moons ago as an English major, I did a lot of research on etymologies and symbols in American literature, and a huge percentage had biblical roots.

This looks like an interesting read. I'm going to add it to my wish list.
