Buttercream Bump Off , set in Arizona, is about three partners, Angie DeLaura, Melanie (Mel) Cooper, and Tate Harper, who own Fairy Tale Cupcakes. The three friends are amateur sleuths when they aren't catering or whipping up gourmet delights.

Jenn McKinlay's characters find themselves in humorous situations as they try to solve the murder of business man who died while on a date with Mel's mother. Mel's mother Joyce's scenes are a hoot, especially the one with the "heart attack" dress. Amid all of the sleuthing and adventures, there's an undercurrent of an odd love triangle among the partners that fuels some misunderstandings and giggles.

Her cupcake descriptions made me want to head straight to the bakery (Kiss Me Cupcakes, Orange Dreamsicle, Cupid's Bliss, and Moonlight Madness). She put the recipes in at the end. I can't wait to try her Orange Dreamsicle one.

This is the second work in McKinlay's series. I look forward to reading more of her cupcake mysteries.
