Deb Baker's Murder Grins and Bears It
Murder Grins and Bears It is part of Deb Baker's Gertie Johnson series. It's about a seasoned amateur sleuth, who with her close friends, outwit her son, the local sheriff to solve a murder mystery where her grandson is a suspect. The book, set in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, is very funny. I love her heroine and the situations that the three seniors get mired in.
One of my favorite parts is when Gertie steals her grandson's car (and learns to drive stick shift on the fly) to get to the scene where her grandson was last seen. (She neglects details like having a license or knowing how to drive.) The police find the car where she parks it (thinking the grandson left it), and they set the tracking dog on it. The dog spends the next few scenes tracking Gertie because she was the last one to use it. She has more car adventures and other hijinks as the novel progresses.
This is a fun read, and I look forward to the others in this series.
