I really liked The Lincoln Lawyer, so I checked out several of Michael Connelly's older books. Crime Beat: A Decade of Covering Cops and Killers is a collection of news articles from his time as a journalist in Florida and California.

The series of short articles are grouped to tell a variety of stories. The vignettes are folded into chapters entitled, "The Cops," "The Killers," and "The Cases."

It's a quick, true crime read with a cast of characters that rival any good mystery. I'm currently reading his Chasing the Dime.
