Gunpowder Plot is one of Carola Dunn's Daisy Dalrymple mysteries. It's a fun, British cozy. The amateur sleuth, Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher, visits the estate of a friend for a Guy Fawkes celebration. Fletcher is a journalist working on an article for an American publication. The festivities are disrupted by a double murder or murder/suicide of the master of the estate and an Australian visitor.

Fletcher helps her husband and Scotland Yard unravel the mystery that threatens to rock the core of the gentile family. Things are not quite as they appear on the surface.

I like Dunn's descriptions of the family dynamics. I also like that her sleuth has imperfections, and that she finds it hard to find guilt in suspects that she likes.
