Some Randomness and Tim Cockey's HEARSE CASE SCENARIO
Happy 65th birthday to Freddie Mercury! Check out the Google Art. Click the play button and watch the cartoon concert.
I'm extending my Labor Day weekend. It's raining here in Central Virginia. That must have put a damper on the first day of school activities. I know there were a lot of folks (including teachers) unhappy about dragging it out of bed this morning for school. I know when I taught that teachers were the first ones doing the snow dance.
I finished Tim Cockey's Hearse Case Scenario this weekend. I love that his sleuth, Hitchcock Sewell, is a cocky undertaker from Baltimore. The dialogue is smart, snarky, and funny. In this mystery, Sewell gets a random call from a club owner telling him that he's been shot by one of Sewell's close friends. The club owner is murdered later at the hospital, and days later, his half-brother is also murdered. Sewell partners with Pete Munger, a lawyer-turned-PI to unravel the many secrets from the vast cast of characters that include lounge singers, professional basketball players, bartenders, cute coeds, and poly sci professors. There's also a few shady underworld folks thrown in for good measure. Sewell and Munger pull on a lot of stray threads to unravel the story that includes three murders and a gambling scheme. I want to read the others he has in this series. Cockey does a great job with dialogue and his characters.
