Laura Levine's DEATH OF A TROPHY WIFE
I was browsing the stacks at the library, and I rediscovered Laura Levine, and her funny mysteries. Her sleuth, Jaine Austen, is a freelance (usually broke) writer whose bread and butter comes from ad campaigns for local businesses. She lives next door to Lance, an upscale shoe salesman in Beverly Hills. Lance is a fashion maven and is frustrated by Jaine's love of t-shirts, casual wear, and junk food.
In this mystery, Jaine Austen meets Bunny, (the much younger) wife of the local mattress king, Marion Cooper. Cooper's ex-wife is still in the picture. She works with the mattress king. Levin has a cast of zany characters that get into all kinds of trouble. When Bunny ends up dead at her own swanky party, the part-time sleuth jumps into action to solve the crime because Lance has been framed.
In addition to the characters involved with the murder, Jaine gets crazy emails from her parents in Florida. They live in a retirement community, and their antics make their daughter's look tame.
Levine's mysteries are a fun, quick read that'll make you giggle.
