THE MINDSET LISTS - McBride and Nief
If you deal with people, you need to read The Mindset Lists of American History: From Typewriters to Text Messages, What Ten Generations of Americans Think is Normal by Tom McBride and Ron Nief. These are the guys who create the list of what each year's freshman class knows.
This book is great! I'm stuck in the middle at work. I've got the traditionalists and the Boomers on one side and the GEN Y and younger on the other end. This book puts a lot into perspective. And as I age, I forget that not everyone has the same frame of reference.
This book is a quick, fun read. The chapters start in 1898 and go through the class of 2026. I love their chapter titles:
- Women Have Always Ridden Bicycles
- Rum Has Always Been Demonic
- They've Always Been Spoiled by Zippers
- The Shadow Has Always Known
- Fluoride Has Always Been Controversial
- Magazines Have Always been Mad
- There Has Always Been the Grateful Dead
- Michelangelo Has Always Been a Turtle
- They've Never Dialed a Telephone
- They've Never Needed a Key for Anything
As you read, you realize there were other generations who dealt with crummy economies and skimpy job options.
The book is smart and funny, and it shows our collective experiences by generation.
