THE LITIGATORS - John Grisham
I have been a fan of John Grisham for a long time, but I don't love all of his books equally. I put The Litigators in the really good pile.
High-powered lawyer, David Zinc, has a melt down and leaves his cut-throat, high-paying job. He ends up drunk on the steps of a small firm that bills itself as "boutique firm." Zinc learns street law quickly as he is embroiled in a class action suit over a cholesterol drug. Circumstances and fate are against him, and by the trial date, he suddenly has moved into the first chair role for the prosecution. And the stress builds because he (and his partners) have no experience in federal court.
The book also has its funny moments. The characters aren't that nobel, but by the end, you want them to succeed (or at least not fail for some of them). AC, the dog, is my hero.
